Where to Take your Kids in Metro Manila on a Budget
Our trip was canceled during the break because of the typhoon, so we had to come up with some last minute ideas as to where we can take the kids around the city or the outskirts of the Metro. It would be helpful if the day out would be inexpensive, educational and enjoyable at the same time.
1. National Museum (Free)
Entrance is free for all visitors, thank you very much! :) But if you have toddlers better make sure they stay close as they have precious works of art irreplaceable when broken. Introduce some culture and nationalism in you and your child's life by introducing him/her to the works of our national artists.
2. The National Planetarium (P50 for adults, P35 for children)
The girls enjoyed this very much as they almost believed that they were traveling into space. Just like the National Museum, the Planetarium is closed on Mondays. Arrive early for the show times and check the schedule ahead of time. Phones are definitely NOT allowed in the Planetarium, and you are required to leave them outside. Don't bring precious items as you MUST leave your bags outside.
3. Quezon City Circle (Just parking fees)
Take the kids out for a run around the area or let them purchase vegetation to take care of. Teach them how to grow and take care of plants and its basic parts. Go ride a bicycle for a fee or rent one. Have a picnic or take them to the playgrounds. The playgrounds for me though needs a little cleaning and maintenance. You might want to pass. 😁
4. University of the Philippines (Free)
It's the best place to run (at least for us), for the reason that some parts of the roads are closed. My children love running in the Amphitheater (the area behind the Oblation) and in the Sunken Garden. You can have a picnic in the area too, just make sure to clean as you go!
5. Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife (Entrance Fee: P30)
Another place to take your children for a picnic and have a breath of fresh air (?). You can check out the mini zoo although I must say compared to the other zoos in we have visited, this one is not in the best state. We haven't been there for some time, but I have heard from friends that it is still ok to visit.
