If you've been putting off getting your NBI clearance because you dread the long lines, I have good news: the process is so much easier now. I remember queueing for hours at the NBI office years ago — sweaty, hungry, and wondering if I'd make it home before school dismissal. Those days are mostly behind us.
Whether you need it for a new job, a visa application, or a government requirement, here's everything you need to know to get it done in 2026.
What Is NBI Clearance and Why Do You Need It?
The NBI Clearance is an official document from the National Bureau of Investigation that confirms whether you have any criminal record in the Philippines. Unlike a police clearance (which only covers your city or municipality), the NBI clearance checks your name across the entire country — so it carries a lot more weight.
You'll typically need it for:
- Job applications (especially government, finance, or positions of trust)
- Visa and passport processing
- Business registration and permits
- School enrollment or board exams
- OFW requirements
How Much Does It Cost in 2026?
The total fee is ₱155, broken down as:
- ₱130 — base clearance fee
- ₱25 — e-payment/system service charge
If you choose door-to-door delivery instead of branch pickup, expect to pay around ₱355 or more depending on your location.
Free for first-time job seekers! Under Republic Act 11261 (First-Time Jobseekers Assistance Act), if this is your very first job application, you can get your NBI clearance for free. Just bring a Barangay Certificate confirming your status as a first-time job seeker when you visit the branch. This benefit can only be used once in your lifetime, so use it wisely.
What You Need to Prepare
Before you start, have these ready:
- A valid email address (for account registration)
- At least two valid government-issued IDs — originals and photocopiesAccepted IDs: Passport, Driver's License, SSS ID, UMID, Voter's ID, PRC ID, PhilHealth ID, Postal ID
- Note: Company IDs are not accepted
- Payment method: GCash, PayMaya, 7-Eleven, or bank transfer
- Printer or phone (for your appointment confirmation)
Step-by-Step: How to Get Your NBI Clearance Online
Step 1: Go to the Official NBI Website
Head to clearance.nbi.gov.ph — this is the official portal. Be careful of copycat websites that look similar but aren't official.

Step 2: Register for an Account
Click Sign Up and fill in your details: full name, birthdate, email address, and create a password. You'll receive a One-Time Password (OTP) via email or SMS to verify your account.
Tip: Double-check the spelling of your name — it must match your government IDs exactly. Any mismatch can cause delays.
Step 3: Fill in Your Application
Once logged in, click on Application and complete your personal information — address, purpose of clearance, and which NBI branch you'd like to visit.
Step 4: Choose Your Appointment Schedule
Pick a branch, date, and time that works for you. Slots fill up fast, especially at popular locations like SM North EDSA and Robinsons Galleria. Book a few days ahead to get a good slot.
Once you pick your schedule, the system locks the slot automatically.
Step 5: Pay the Fee
Choose your payment method and pay the ₱155 fee. Save your payment receipt — digital is fine, but have it accessible on your phone or printed.
GCash users: there's an additional ₱5 convenience charge on top of the ₱155.
Step 6: Print Your Appointment Confirmation
After payment, go to your dashboard, click Transactions, and print your NBI Clearance Online Application Form. This has a barcode and reference number — you'll need it at the branch.
Step 7: Show Up for Your Appointment
On your appointment day, bring:
- Printed appointment form (or have it on your phone)
- Payment receipt
- Two valid government IDs (originals + photocopies)
At the branch, you'll have your photo taken, fingerprints scanned, and signature captured. The whole thing usually takes 15–30 minutes if you arrive on time.
Step 8: Claim Your Clearance
No "hit" (no record match): You can usually claim your clearance the same day.
With a "hit": This doesn't necessarily mean you have a criminal record — it just means someone with a similar name has a record in the system. You'll need to go through additional verification, which can take a few working days.
Tips From Someone Who's Done This Multiple Times
- Book early in the morning. Slots at major branches near QC (SM North EDSA, TriNoma area, Robinsons Galleria) go fast.
- Arrive 10–15 minutes before your schedule. Late arrivals may be turned away.
- Don't rely on walk-ins. NBI offices strictly follow the appointment system — walk-ins are generally not accommodated.
- Dress appropriately. The NBI requires neat, modest clothing that covers from neck to feet for your biometrics photo. Sleeveless tops and shorts are a no.
- Your clearance is valid for 1 year. Set a reminder to renew before it expires, especially if you're an OFW or frequently need it for work.
Need to Renew Your NBI Clearance?
The good news: renewals don't require a new appointment if your clearance was issued from 2014 onwards and your personal information hasn't changed. You can renew it fully online and choose delivery to your door.
The fee is the same — ₱155 for branch pickup, more for door-to-door delivery.
