Museo del Galeón with Kids: Our Family Visit + What to Know Before You Go (2026)
We've been to a fair share of museums around Metro Manila, but this is the first time I've heard a kid say, "You don't usually get to experience this in other museums" — and mean it.
We recently visited Museo del Galeón, the new maritime museum at the SM Mall of Asia Complex. We went as a family, but the kids spent most of the visit with their friends from our homeschool club, which honestly made it even more fun for them. (And a little quieter for us parents. 😄)
Here's our honest take: what we loved, what to expect, how much it costs, and a few tips to make your visit smoother.
What Is Museo del Galeón?
Museo del Galeón is an experiential museum all about Philippine maritime history, with a special focus on the Manila–Acapulco Galleon Trade — the trade route that connected Asia, the Americas, and Europe for 250 years (1565–1815).
It opened to the public on May 1, 2026, inside a four-level, dome-shaped building in the MOA Complex in Pasay.
The star of the show? The Galeón Espíritu Santo — a full-scale representation of a 17th-century galleon that was originally built in Cavite in 1603 and sailed the Manila–Acapulco route. Yes, a whole ship. Inside a museum.
Our Experience
The biggest surprise: a life-sized galleon, indoors
Nothing prepared us for how big it is. We expected a model, maybe a scaled-down replica behind glass. Instead, there's a full-sized ship right in the middle of the museum.
The highlight: you can actually board it
This is what makes Museo del Galeón different. You don't just look at the galleon — you walk on board. For kids, that's a completely different kind of learning. History stops being something in a textbook and becomes something they can stand on.
When I asked one of the kids what a friend absolutely shouldn't miss, the answer was instant:
"Being onboard the galleon."
A focused look at Philippine history
The museum focuses mainly on Philippine maritime history and the galleon trade era. We really liked that they went all out and built a life-sized ship to make this chapter of history tangible.
One thing to set expectations, though: if you're looking for a broad, in-depth overview of Philippine history, the National Museum is still your best bet. Museo del Galeón is more focused — it tells one story, and tells it in a way you can experience.
Crowd and comfort
The crowd during our visit was very manageable. The museum is spacious and never felt cramped, even with our homeschool group moving around together.
How long we stayed
We spent about 2 hours inside, which felt just right — enough time to explore the galleon and the galleries without anyone (kids or parents) getting tired or cranky.
Is Museo del Galeón Kid-Friendly?
Yes! For our group, boarding the galleon was easily one of the highlights of the visit. It's also a great pick for homeschool field trips and group outings, since it ties in neatly with Philippine history lessons.
When we asked one of the kids if the visit was worth it, here's what they said:
"Yes. You learn about a part of Philippine history, and it's something you don't usually get to see or experience in other museums."
I couldn't have said it better.
Is It Worth the Price?
For us, yes. The ticket isn't the cheapest museum admission around, but boarding a life-sized galleon is an experience we haven't found in any other Philippine museum. That alone made it worth it for our family.

Check for Promos and Special Events Before You Go
One thing we noticed during our visit is that Museo del Galeón regularly has special promos, talks, workshops, and other activities, so it's worth checking what's happening before you buy your tickets.
During our September 2026 visit, for example, birth-month celebrants could enter for FREE when accompanied by two full-paying guests.
There was also a special Teachers' Month 2+1 offer, running from September 5 to October 5, where teachers could enjoy free admission with two full-paying companions.
The museum also hosts activities beyond its regular exhibits. During the weekend of our visit, the schedule included Dáyo: Poetry, Place, and the Archipelago, a poetry reading and book-signing event, as well as Connect Your Guiding Stars, a constellation workshop for children ages 7–12.

Getting There and Parking
We drove, and there's open-space parking in front of the museum. One thing to know: you enter the museum through the mall, not directly from the parking area.
If you're coming from inside SM Mall of Asia, head toward the Seaside Boulevard side and take the escalator near Tong Yang — the museum entrance is on the second floor.
Tips for Visiting Museo del Galeón
- Book tickets online to save time at the entrance.
- Eat before you go (or plan lunch after). Food and drinks are not allowed inside the museum. We had lunch at MOA — easy, since there are tons of options.
- Budget around 2 hours. Longer if your kids love to linger.
- Go with friends. Our kids had a blast exploring with their homeschool buddies — a group visit makes it extra memorable.
- Set expectations for history buffs. It's focused on maritime history and the galleon trade — pair it with a National Museum trip if you want the bigger picture.
- 💡 Homeschool families: If you're visiting as part of a homeschool group, ask the museum in advance which student rate applies and what proof of enrollment or identification they require.
- Check the museum's events calendar before you go. We noticed that Museo del Galeón also runs special talks, workshops and activities.
Ticket Holder Perks
One little bonus we noticed during our visit: Museo del Galeón ticket holders can get discounts at participating restaurants around MOA.
During our September 2026 visit, Fiery Style offered 10% off for Museo del Galeón ticket holders through the Galleon Pass. The offer was applicable at its SM MOA Pasay City branch, with one discount per transaction.
Botejyu was also advertising a 15% discount exclusively for Museo del Galeón ticket holders at its Level 1 North Wing, Entertainment Mall branch.
Promos and participating restaurants can change, so check the displays at the museum during your visit for the latest offers.
Final Thoughts
Museo del Galeón is a refreshing addition to the museum scene in Metro Manila. It isn't trying to cover everything — it tells one story, and it lets you (literally) step inside it. For families, especially homeschoolers, it's a fun and memorable way to bring Philippine history to life.
If you're planning a weekend family day, pair it with lunch at MOA and a walk by the bay, and you've got yourself a full day out.
